What we do
Turkey is an earthquake country, and when we feel a tremor the first things we want to know are where it happened, how strong it was and how deep it was. deprem.info was built to answer these questions without complicated tables or clutter, in a way you can read within seconds on a phone or a computer.
On the site you will find:
- Latest earthquakes: the most recently recorded earthquakes and a summary of the last 24 hours and the last 7 days.
- Earthquakes by province: the latest earthquakes and the largest recorded earthquake for each of Turkey’s 81 provinces.
- Earthquake search: list past earthquakes by date, magnitude and province.
- Earthquake archive: records by year and month since 1990.
- A dedicated page for every earthquake: magnitude, depth, time, province, district, coordinates and other earthquakes in the same area.
Where does the data come from?
All earthquake records are based on data published openly by the Earthquake Department of AFAD, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye. Records published by AFAD are imported to our site at regular intervals and shown without any changes. Magnitudes are of the type reported by AFAD (ML, Mw, Md) and all times are given in Turkey Time (TRT, UTC+3).
AFAD may update the information it first publishes; in that case the record on our site is updated in the next import. For the most up-to-date and official information, always rely on deprem.afad.gov.tr.
What we don’t do
deprem.info is not an official body and has no connection with AFAD or any other public authority. The site is not an early warning or earthquake prediction system; it only shows earthquakes that have occurred and been recorded. If you are in an emergency during or after an earthquake in Turkey, call the 112 Emergency Call Center and follow the instructions of the official authorities.
What do the colors mean?
The colors on the site show the magnitude of an earthquake: below 2 is gray (micro), 2–3 green (very light), 3–4 yellow (light), 4–5 orange (moderate), 5–6 red (strong), and 6 and above dark red (very strong). This classification is meant to make the list easier to read; how an earthquake is felt depends on its depth, distance and the ground.
Revenue and independence
The site’s hosting and development costs may be covered by advertising revenue. Ads do not influence the content; earthquake records are shown exactly as published at the source, independently of advertisers.
